Series of services to mark 75 years of the Basic Law

To mark the 75th anniversary of the Basic Law, the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) is launching a series of services spread across all 20 regional churches. It covers the preamble and the first 19 articles, which contain the basic rights. In each of the 20 Protestant regional churches, one of these 20 fundamental constitutional elements will be addressed in a service.

As a gift for the reopening of the church, the Queen of Denmark made a red altar hanging, which was presented to the public for the first time during the service. There have been good relations between the Danish royal family and Wittenberg since the Reformation. Denmark introduced the Reformation in 1536. Queen Margrethe is the head of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Denmark. The monarch said the request to make the antependium for the palace church was a "very big and happy surprise" that she only accepted after some hesitation. "This task was a great challenge, which I dedicated myself to with great respect," she emphasized. The altar hanging has a large Luther rose in the middle.

75 years of the castle church congregation

The castle church congregation celebrated its 75th anniversary on August 25, 2024 with a celebratory service and reception afterwards. Superintendent Dr. Gabriele Metzner and Pastor Anne Brisgen led the service. A special feature of the service was that contemporary witness reports were read out that revolved around the founding of the castle church congregation. The reasons for the founding were also discussed again and again later, as shown in a meeting protocol of the parish council from December 4, 1972, in which one reason was given: "The parish council knows that the castle church, which is visited by people from all over the world, needs a supporting local congregation as a place of worship."
