Sunday lecture 2024
The series of Sunday lectures at the Evangelical Preacher's Seminar 2024 is dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the Evangelical Hymnal. The lectures take place on Sundays at 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. in the castle auditorium, Schlossplatz 1, 06886 Lutherstadt Wittenberg. Admission is free.

The statues of the reformers in front of the pillars: There are nine limestone statues created around 1890, depicting Luther and a circle of "German Lutheran" theologians devoted to him. In front of the pillars, as seen from the entrance hall, are: North side: Nikolaus v. Amsdorf, Urbanus Rhegius, Georg Spalatin, Johannes Bugenhagen, Philipp Melanchthon. South side: Caspar Cruciger, Johannes Brenz, Justus Jonas, Martin Luther.
Construction history
As part of the new construction of Wittenberg Castle (1489-1518), Elector Frederick the Wise of Saxony (r. 1486-1525) had a castle church built from 1496 onwards, which was consecrated in 1503 and completed around 1509. It took up almost the entire north wing of the main castle, which consisted of three wings, and its interior was furnished with works by the most important artists of the period of transition from the Gothic to the Renaissance.
Castle church parish
The castle church parish was founded in 1949. For a long time there had been a desire to give this church its own congregation in addition to the preachers' seminary, thereby strengthening the religious life.
History
Around 1340, the Ascanian dukes had an "All Saints' Chapel" built at their castle and founded a collegiate monastery in it for liturgical service. Elector Friedrich the Wise had the palace with the chapel demolished and his new residential palace with a more spacious palace church built on the site. You can find out more about the story here.
Church for children
Every Sunday there is a children's service in the Wittenberg Castle Church, parallel to the adult service. Ms. Felicia Grauel is one of the volunteers for the children's service.
