On October 10, the Schloss- und Stadtkirchengemeinde (Castle and Town Church Congregation) invites everyone to a congregation excursion titled "In the Footsteps of Paul Gerhardt." The destination is Mittenwalde, one of the places where the pastor and hymn writer served.
On November 30, 1651, Gerhardt assumed the roles of Provost (senior pastor) and Inspector (superintendent) at St. Moritz Church. He married Anna Maria Berthold there in 1655. Their first child, Maria Elisabeth, was born in Mittenwalde. After six years of service, Paul Gerhardt was called back to Berlin to take up a pastoral position at St. Nicholas Church. Many new hymns were composed during his time in Mittenwalde, including "O Sacred Head, Now Wounded" (*O Haupt voll Blut und Wunden*).
